My Area Girl

My area girl, my area girl
My girl in mind

If I were to write a birthday poem
A birthday poem with a queen in mind

It would be of a sort, something like this
It would sound just like this, with a queen in mind ...

Butterflies are pure, she is my area girl, my area girl
Nothing too fancy but fancy self

Her looks so gorgeous and full of grace
Easily could have been a beauty queen

But stayed away from the lime light
Elegantly shy, shy, coy and reserved

Honeysuckle, she is just so sophisticated, effortlessly so
Class is nothing but t' definition of her essence

She is my area girl, my beauty queen
Just the same, with a natural beauty

Fragrant royal roses, she was born a beauty queen
Nothing like barbie, all plastic filled

Artificial in character, is not in her nature
Not of her make, not so defined

To rub off easily, pencil marks
Crumbling as usual when the going gets tough

Bailing out, no nah, not my Agyeiwaa
My lady bird, my back bone hold

Bird of paradise, she is my area girl, my beauty queen
Travelling far or near my area girl

Still, where ever we will go
She will always be my area girl

Like a good network, reception essential
My area girl, my area girl

Relevance, she is just so well connected
With nothing in tow but love to show

My area girl, as my area girl
My area girl, my area girl, my beauty queen

Written for Rita Denteh Agyeiwaa on her birthday
Always stay as blessed and more
I am fortunate to know you..

The Birthday Wish List

The birthday wish list
Candle by numbers, do not mention

Just one as a figure would do
No point counting all that

What do you give to a person
That wants none, none to ask for

None at all in material need
As value not needed,on bequest

What do you do to show an appreciation
To celebrate the life of a human angel

Most would weld a string
As whip to proclaim their strong hold

But in life there are classy walking angels too
Mothering the masses in want of harmony

That teach with radiant character on deeds
As an inspiration for others to follow

What do you give to a person
That wants none, none to ask for

But a beautiful smile, none to ask for
None to ask for, but the harmony of her flock

We searched hard to find the gift
Most with value to sum your essence

We ended up with words to say
For all that you are, you are appreciated

And we hold your legacy as built
Being built, as seeds of characters to have

What do you give, as gift with more in value
Than material gifts, cheap on currency

A life time of appreciation as an inspiration
You are appreciated, for all that you are..

No counting of candles on cakes
We are only here to make wishes

Don't you know it is rude to
Ask a fine lady her age.....

I am not an age count
I am retro! from the time of the analog

Over Crowded Cakes

Fact is I was laid, an egg today, some time past
That came before the chicken and egg race
Parables solved, I am that good, with parables

Don't worry for reasons,  that is another story
To tell, another time, on once upon a time
Today I am blowing candles

Laid or was it hatched, as an egg today
I did be fast, trust me, furiously fast
To have made it to the egg to fertilize

So I guess there was the "birds and bees"
The run before the egg, or was it the swim
Going into a shock release; seriously confusing this is

Any ways as I was saying
So win win, winner takes all
No splits into twins or a kind, of a kind

I sat in nest as the king of water's world
For the nine turns in calender
Before making an entry, with screams

Oh hail the one, yes for I am the one
On this day born, with this life to live
And life stories to add; of course with drama

Lets not go into details
Throw proverbs in for the measure
To hold eye lashes from blushing

So anyway cakes and candles
I will blow just the one, if you don't mind
For is with one life I live

Don't go overcrowding my cake
Asking me of age count "silly you"
I am  analog, retro, this is before digital

Chinese Ageing

The Chinese say, no lie
We are a year plus one on our birthdays
Nine months before birth, alive and kicking

The young would love that, adapt that
Desperate to be legal in shops, and outings
Desperate to be legal, to show on proof of IDs

Yearning to have their independence
While still living under the roof of parental nest
Yep, the young would love that

A year plus one, the Chinese say
Nine months before birth, the Chinese say
Yet still influenced by the external environment

Adulthood would hate that
To an extent, to the point at that age
Where age is no longer mentioned

Don't you know it is rude to ask
This is way past teen years  glide
You should know better, than to ask

Such questions of age, such rudeness of insult
Appearances should tell, wise eyes should see
Though subtle, still visible, appearances should tell

Birthday cakes with no numbered age shown
Random numbers of candles,  it holds
If you are that inclined  to blow a wish on sentiments

A year plus one the Chinese say
Nine months, before birth
A case is made here, the Chinese say

Yea adulthood would hate that
And the young would love that
I guess that is why, we choose to disregard
A year plus one, to the Chinese reason
