Old dogs are still friends....
Tricks are hard to come by these days....
The bones, somehow feels weak and frail....
Tail movements slow....
.. ..
Hints of grey in furs ....
He walks slowly absorbed in pain....
If sticks were allowed he did....
Be leaning on one by now...... ..
But that was one trick, he never learnt to master ....A parrot on the roof top, A big loud mouth,
Shouts out loud to tease ....
Shouts out loud to tease ....
'You can’t teach him new tricks, ....
His gone too far gone for that now'
In repeated sentences like a broke record....
In repeated sentences like a broke record....
.. ..
He lifts his head up at strangers....
By the doorway, fidget(ing) ....
Slowly he goes down again...."What is the point....
Dentures in my mouth may fall off ....
If am not careful ....
I am just too old to guard this house"....
.. ..
But always has a pride of place ....Under the old man’s chair....
Together in affinity they walked the fields of parks ....
Together they have a bond,....
That will take them to their grave....
.. ..Let the old Chap ....
Be the one with the stick....
With his smoky old English grey coat and hut ....
To match, in mention ....
I will just be by his side, sidekick
'Smoky English old grey coat'..perfect! a sad tale but the picture gives me some hope they are content together..Jae

ReplyDeleteKodjo, this is such a touching poem. I am a dog lover, and the poem resonated true. My dogs aren't 'old' yet, but when they are they WILL still be friends and have their places.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Kodjo...I have shared my life with a few good dogs and know there is not a better friend to be had...
