Feeding off my bones

Feeding off my bones
My ambitions

#So find me a reason
#Different from my understanding
#It is, what it is I see when I look up
#That is my calling, my dreams and ambitions

Some are still feeding off my bones
They say it is juicy so they

Go on sucking my bone marrow
We changed faces, like season

Lovers came and went in different sizes
Colour coded in area codes to suit

My face got fatter and slimmer
In one given season, renewal

Then I found angels
Angels with wings in my prayers

#So find me a reason
#Different from my understanding
#It is, what it is I see when I look up
#That is my calling, my dreams and ambitions

Travellers named me a regular
On the road less travelled

I stayed around, longer than most
Yea, I know these roads my neighbourhood

Each brick
And the marks on them

Who made them
Gone are a few, forgotten faces

#\So find me a reason
#Different from my understanding
#It is, what it is I see when I look up
#That is my calling, my dreams and ambitions

My mind plays games on me sometimes
Like the story is without me in chapters

I came close, many a times
And I lost track of reasons

Still with strong faith in the religion
We were born this way, go figure

We breathe in and out
And it is all with our dreams and ambitions

#So find me a reason
#Different from my understanding
#It is, what it is I see when I look up
#That is my calling, my dreams and ambitions

Hold on now, not so quick
Wait until tomorrow and tell me how it all went down

I can not take my focus of these roads
They change like the sand dunes in the Sahara

And we still travelling, a foot forward
Though it feels like forever

When we look back
It seems we have made progress

#So find me a reason
#Different from my understanding
#It is, what it is I see when I look up
#That is my calling, my dreams and ambitions

So who is counting
Ask him to look at our worth in consideration

Mixed feelings
Personality change and I switch

Back and forth arrows in rushed pages
When I am in that mood, stay away, it takes a while

We only human, blood that boils
Counting down on our ambitions

#So find me a reason
#Different from my understanding
#It is, what it is I see when I look up
#That is my calling, my dreams and ambitions

Tell family I would be late coming home
This night, something came up

You know how it is
Some are still feeding off my bones

I pray my heart
Stays strong, for the journey

I fear I am changing again
They feeding off my bone marrow again

It is my ambition eating me alive
But  it is all just for the cause

God bless , I know I am blessed
I know I am

#So find me a reason
#Different from my understanding
#It is, what it is I see when I look up
#That is my calling, my dreams and ambitions

  1. Your refrain really worked to drive your poem forward, Kodjo. Nice reflection on the difference between reason and understanding. Feeding off bones & bone marrow makes for some vivid imagery!

  3. The repetition really works, Kodjo. I especially like "travellers named me a regular on the road less travelled."

  4. Great use of stanzas and refrain, Kojo! And I like the idea of trying to find a reason that is different from our understanding.

  5. So hard to leave such a known place: what eats one, what feeds, what are the normal paths and the new. ANd yet, as the refrain irons out the confusion in this poem, at least one youth finds a way. A song?
