A Way With Words

The old word typewriter
He had a way with words
Quietly sat post, past his prime

Nothing fancy just letters on keys
Staged, mounted  on wood of fancy
Named royal for in his day, glorious stood

He was royal and dear
Majestically it made sounds, echoing the room
Like foot steps of  giants on a stampede

With every push of the keypad
Decibals of vibration announced
It made music, no one tried dancing to

Fright for the typos
How many pages thrown down scrap heap
The forest stood with fear

Imagination had to have a pass with words
Yet in his day, many a word were sang aloud
Today quietly it rests, renamed antiquate

  1. Very nicely done. Respectful while still discussing limitations. "It made music, no one tried dancing to" So very true and well said. Apt choice in names for it at the end. Also, the opening stanza has a smooth narrative tone to it.

  2. "I remember It well." I remember the 'many pages thrown down scrap heap" I use to get very frustrated with all my mistakes...

  10. From Royal to antique. Once a proper name, now a common one. I think of how this machine revolutionized communication, yet so many young have no idea what it is!

  14. Solid rolls-off-the-tongue line-breaks, flow and word choices.

  15. I love it! I love all the last two lines in each stanza, juxtaposed against the first line. It works so well it makes it perfect because it's unexpected. Thanks, Kodj for such delightful images.
