In a Nut Shell

To say in a nutshell
Asked to say in round ups
Just in few words

It's like southern hospitality
But not of chickens on the run
More to do with the blues

Parables on walls
Verses, left for the masses
Heroes made of the ordinary

Smooth, slow, inch by inch
Note by note; in inscriptions
In rhyme, in rhythm, in play

That sound with passion
Built into the DNA of vision
Seen in revolution, this is silent rebellion

Coded sounds for the faithful
To hold like promises of emancipation
This is a new genre, in the know

Before explosion, outburst
Graffiti on the walls
With coded messages

It will come to have its followers
And believers, doubters, critics
This is what we came to make of poetry

Comedy and made it our own
This is free thinking
From pen to paper and beyond

To thought provoke
This is words without borders
To say in a nut shell, just in a nutshell

  1. What a lyrical poem. In a nutshell, to quote Simon and Garfunkel, "the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenant halls..."

    Brilliant!
